Holiday Hunger Flight

Save the date for our eighth annual Doran Barro Holiday Hunger Fight on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019. From open to close, all Barro’s Pizza locations will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from store sales to St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance. The proceeds will help diminish the number of Arizonans battling hunger during the holidays.

Barro’s Pizza is continuing this fundraiser to give back to the Arizona community that has given us so much love and support during the past 30-plus years.

Last year, Barro’s Pizza raised a grand total of $255,141 for St Mary’s, making this the highest donation from the annual event. Every dollar donated equates to seven meals, so this last year’s donation provided 1,785,987 meals during the holiday season to Arizona’s hungry. Over the last seven years, $1,206,257 was raised which equals almost 8.5 million meals. Over the years, the Doran Barro Holiday Hunger Fight has become St. Mary’s largest cause-marketing effort of the year.

Eat a little, help a lot!

• One fountain drink = 13 meals

“The community has really gotten behind this event every year, and we hope they will do the same this year by ordering or dining in at one of our restaurants on Dec. 3,” said Gina Barro co-owner of Barro’s Pizza. “Barro’s makes it a priority to help in the community however we can, and it’s especially important over the holidays to make sure no one goes hungry. We are committed to helping to end hunger in Arizona and will continue to dedicate the first Tues. in Dec. every year to help this cause.”

The Doran Barro Holiday Hunger Fight is named after the matriarch of the Barro family, Doran, who the family lost in 2016. The issue of hunger in Arizona and around the world was very important to Doran. She took on this effort with the support of her family and friends, but most importantly, with the support of the Barro’s customers who participate each year. The Barro family chose to continue this fundraiser in her honor, which is St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance’s largest cause-marketing effort of the year.

“We are so very grateful to the Barro Family for their continued support each year,” said St. Mary’s President and CEO, Tom Kertis. “We truly couldn’t do what we do without the generosity and support of companies like Barro’s Pizza and their loyal customers. We are so very appreciative for your continued support of our community.”
